Mica taping line for quality and high-performance cables

Mica taping is used in many application sectors to increase the cable resistance to fire and high temperatures. This mineral is made up of alkaline aluminum silicates of different composition, joined to a base to allow the taping process. Nowadays the increasing request of mica cables and also the highest requirements due to the EN-50577 push the cable producers to search for a high-tech taping machine: able to perform at high speed and to grant a taping quality that allows their cable to meet the certification requirements

WTM provides different solutions, based on the conductor specifications - from small up to medium section cables – and the taping layers to apply, with a wide range of possibilities and layouts tailored on the customer needs

For what concerns small section cables, the vertical taping machines are very versatile:

  • single or stranded conductors, mono or multipolar cables, can be processed;
  • all kind of tape and yarn (mica, polyamide, polyimide, PTFE, paper, polyester, laminated tapes, aluminum, metal, fiberglass, etc.) are allowed;
  • all types of heads, mechanical or motorized, for pads or spools, fit in the columns;
  • the taping units can be equipped with one or two taping heads, saving further space in production.

The layout of WTM vertical taping lines includes:

  • cable pay-off unit, with cantilever or shaft design, even with traversing movement, with wire tension managed by dancer or torque control;
  • one, two or three vertical taping units;
  • taping heads (one or two in each taping column);
  • pulling capstan, for synchronization between taping head rotation speed and line speed;
  • cable take-up unit, with cantilever or shaft design, even with traversing movement, with wire tension managed by dancer or torque control.

WTM customizes the equipment according to every Customer requirement and adapts it to each production process, suggesting features that satisfy any need and offering the best performance.
